‘L‘Enfant Unique’ translates into English as ‘The Only Child’ and we have named this wine for its focus and unique characters that are derived from Blocks 2 and 3 on our Hill Road Vineyard in Coldstream, Yarra Valley.
Tasting Notes: Medium Ruby Red. Aromas of Asian spice, Rose petal potpourri and plush red fruits form a heady bouquet on this Pinot noir from our home vineyard at Hill Rd. It is a well formed, relatively muscular Pinot fruit that sits in comfortable repose on a bed of earthy forest floor humus & herby/bracken flavours. A wine to wallow in the sumptuous fruit, savoury mushroom and long spicy oak tannin finish.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked on the 21st of February
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit is fermented with 60% whole bunches. 5 day cold soak, plunged once a day then pressed after 3 weeks on skins to French oak (20% new) for indigenous malolactic conversion then sulphured on lees. 10 months in oak, then racked twice prior to bottling.
Viticultural Notes: Pinot Noir clones: Block 2 – MV6 and Block 3 – D5V12
Optimal conditions for both flowering and fruitset in the vineyards gave well balanced yields with plenty of promise leading into the 2019 harvest. A dry January and February followed, culminating in a relatively compressed vintage, though attention to detail in the vineyards gave winemakers wonderfully balanced fruit with concentration of flavour and exceptional natural acidity.
