Tasting Notes

Raspberry, dried rose, iron filings, cardamom and baking spices with some hazelnut lingering. There’s a mineral earthen note that complements the spectrum of berry fruits. The palate shows great depth of red berry fruit, plum skin, suede pumice tannins and some lovely bass. The old vine character is on display and the drive of fruit and tannin gives promise for a long life ahead.

Winemaking Notes

Picked on the 10th of March 2025
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit was partially destemmed and fermented as whole berries, with 30% as whole bunches. On skins for 18 days then pressed to oak (20% new) for malolactic fermentation on lees. In oak for 10 months before racking prior to bottling. 275 dozen produced.

Awards & Reviews

97 Points – Halliday Wine Companion 2025

“… A vibrant crimson purple. Brooding with dark fruits, violets and warm spices. A lot to like here. Just as serious on the concentrated, gently plush and beautifully structured palate. A classic old-vine, low-cropped, Yarra-floor pinot that will still be looking good 10, if not 20, years from now.”
– Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion

Gold Medal – 2025 Australian Pinot Noir Challenge

95 Points – The Wine Front 2025

Viticultural Notes

The fruit for this Pinot Noir comes from old vine D5V12 clone (Block 3) and MV6 (Block 2) from Hill Road Vineyard Coldstream planted in 1985.
2023 was a vintage where a wet spring provided challenges, yet through hard work and perseverance we enjoyed a mild and kind harvest period that has produced wines of vibrancy and finesse.
