96 Points - Halliday Wine Companion 2024

“…A fluorescent crimson purple. Chock-full of vibrant damson plums, blackberries, dried flowers and intense cracked black pepper. It's still a pup on a moreish, gently savoury and nicely structured palate. The sort of wine that a SA shiraz drinker could dip their toes into.”
- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion

Tasting Notes: Aromas of Doris plum, warm spices, violets, licorice, and crushed gravel. The palate is sumptuous with plum and red fruits, cocoa, cleansing acidity, chestnut, and fennel seed. The texture of this Syrah is a highlight with its rocky tannins lingering long.
Winemaking Notes: Handpicked on the 24th March
Vinification & Elevage: Fermented as 100% whole bunches and on skins for 4 weeks. Pressed to aged French oak puncheons for malolactic conversion and in oak for 11 months prior to bottling. 112 dozen produced.
Viticultural Notes: The fruit for this wine is grown on our original HIll Road Vineyard in Coldstream.
Syrah clone: PT23 on own roots planted 1987, from Block 7
2022 will be remembered for the tiniest yields in a decade resulting from poor flowering conditions in our parts of the Yarra Valley. The quality of the resultant wines of this vintage, however, are outstanding with both concentration and finesse.
