KATANKIN

“Katankin writes and sings with spirit, soul, intensity and passion. If these things are important to you then her music will resonate deeply” Stuart Coupe

“Said the starling” is the much-anticipated debut album from Melbourne’s Katankin, a singer-songwriter who has steadily been making her presence known in the indie music scene. The release of her self-produced debut EP “The quiet shimmer of the world” was met with a 2023 Music Victoria nomination for Best Folk Work, and several major music festival appearances including the St Kilda Festival, and Maldon Folk Festival.

Work on a full album began early this year, with Katankin again arranging and producing the work herself, but this time accompanied by a full band, including occasional strings and horns. The result is a powerful, eclectic and extremely well-crafted offering, marked by Katankin’s signature poeticism, razor-sharp lyrics and uniquely expressive vocal delivery. The songs by turns uplift and shatter; Katankin’s angelic voice tenderly caresses you one moment, before scathingly, blisteringly, slamming you down the next, in an impressive showcase of her range as both singer and songwriter.

“Sadness and anger have never sounded so beautiful… Katankin’s songs are about giving herself, and therefore us, permission to feel, to give, to love, to cry” Michael Smith – Rhythms Magazine

RAIN OF ANIMALS

Rain Of Animals is the euphonious collaboration between Pepita Emmerichs (Oh Pep!) and Theodore Barnard (Wire & Wool) and their love of all things mandolin, fiddle, guitar, harmony vocals, bluegrass, oldtime, swing, tunes and songs. Their sound is both new and old, unique in it's instrumental wizardry and musical integrity all at once.
