94 Points - The Wine Front
Tasting Notes: Quite an intense burst of aromas straight up, stoney graphite, violets, purple fruits, black peppercorns, and olive tapenade. The palate shows depth and concentration fruit remaining fresh and true to site. Flavours are a mix of fruits; blood plum, wild forest berries with the savoury; olive, rocky mineral notes, and charcuterie. The tannins are fine and the twist of dried herbs on the finish completes this terroir driven Syrah.
Winemaking Notes: Handpicked on the 17th of March
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit was partially destemmed as whole berries, with 80% as whole bunches. A short cold soak prior to fermentation and on skins for 14 days. The wine was pressed to seasoned puncheons for malolactic conversion on lees and in oak for 10 months.
Viticultural Notes: Syrah clone: PT23 from Block 7
The fruit for this Syrah is grown on our original Hill Road vinyard in Coldstream.
2021 was a welcome return to ideal growing conditions here in the Yarra Valley. A prolonged, classical season allowed for brilliant definition of flavour across out range.
