Tasting Notes:
The 2020 vintage was a very cool season and here we have a Chardonnay from the most southerly and cool end of the Yarra Valley. The combination of cool site and cool season resulted in a wine that may well live forever!
The wine opens with scents of flint, citrus zest, white peach, minerals, white nougat supported by delicate spices from oak.
On the palate there is a huge amount of energy from the natural acid (which is softening nicely, tasting the wine 6 years from harvest) with flavours of green apple, lime, mojito and pastries. The wine has huge length from its acidity carrying flavours of grapefruit and minerals, I imagine it will retain this freshness well into the future.
This wine would make the perfect addition to the dinner table to complement the likes of roast chicken, or a variety of creamy pasta dishes!

Hand picked 23rd March
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit was whole bunch pressed to French oak barriques (30% new) for primary fermentation. 50% of the blend underwent malolactic conversion with some occassional lees stirring. 8 months on lees in oak. 220 dozen produced.

Chardonnay clone I10V5
2020 was long and cool growing season in the Yarra Valley. Winter rains were substanial and by the end of spring we had full and healthy vine canopies. The conditions around flowering were challenging leading to low fruit yields. The season progressed with very mild conditions extending the ripening period for harvest well into Autumn for some varieties. The 2020 wines reflect our part of the world and our cool climate.
