Rochford Single Vineyard 'L'Enfant Unique' Pinot Noir 2020

RRP: $85.00
‘L‘Enfant Unique’ translates into English as ‘The Only Child’ and we have named this wine for its focus and unique characters that are derived from Blocks 2 and 3 on our Hill Road Vineyard in Coldstream, Yarra Valley.
Tasting Notes: Quite a complex nose straight away; blue fruits, roast chestnuts, caraway seeds, porcini mushroom and plenty of forest and earthy bass notes. The palate shows a similar spectrum with a combination of savoury and red fruits with a nice depth of tannin. The whole bunch component leads to woodsy spice and a gentle nuttiness. The dimension of the palate evolves nicely the longer the wine is open.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked 12th March
Vinification & Elevage: Wild yeast fermented as 60% whole berries and 40% as whole bunches, on skins for 3 weeks. Pressed to barrel (25% new French oak) for natural malolactic conversion, sulphured on lees in oak for 10 months.
Viticultural Notes: Pinot Noir clones: D5V12 and MV6
2020 was a long and cool growing season in the Yarra Valley. Winter rains were substantial and by the end of spring we had full and healthy vine canopies. The conditions around flowering were challenging leading to low fruit yields. The season progressed with very mild conditions extending the ripening period for harvest well into Autumn for some varieties. The 2020 wines reflect our part of the world and our cool climate.
