Tasting Notes: Floral scents, hazelnut and blue-fruits combine nicely with alpine herbs, olive and brine. Cabernet varietal character is strong here and this wine speaks clearly of its Yarra Valley origin. The palate is full of juicy black-currant, liquorice and mixed herbs. Lively acid offers freshness while gravely tannins give great structure and potential for the future.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked 17th March 2018
Fully destemmed, wild yeast fermented as whole berries in large oak open top fer menters. Three weeks in total on skins, then pressed to a 50/50 mix of barriques and large format oak for natural malolatice conversion.
Elevaged 50% in aged barriques, 50% in a second fill foudre (2200L) for 10 months, bottled unfined
Viticultural Notes: Located within two kilometers of Rochford’s Hill Road Winery at Coldstream the grapes for this wine come from the property formerly known as Briarty Hill and re-named Isabella’s Vineyard upon its purchase in December 2009. This north facing vineyard is situated at the eastern end of the contour that is home to some of the districts most celebrated vineyards, all of which share Briarty Road addresses. Grown on ancient, mountain derived sandy clay loams, these rocky soils combined with our forty year-old vines are at the heart of this wine. The 2018 harvest will be remembered fondly by winemakers in the Yarra Valley. It was a rare season that gave above average yields and excellent quality fruit. Dry sunny conditions with cool overnight temperatures provided good natural acidity and concentrated wines at lower alcohol levels.
