Tasting Notes:
This ‘la Gauche’ is bright and lifted. 2020 was a cool Yarra harvest but this has risen to the occasion. Plenty of florals, spicy bramble, red cherry fruits and black forest cake characters on the nose. The palate is energetic but quite serious with fine tannins and bright cherry fruit.
Winemaking Notes:
From the 18th to the 22nd of March
Vinification & Elevage: Sourced primarily from old vines on our Hill Rd (Coldstream) and Briarty Rd (Gruyere) vineyards. Fruit is sorted, crushed, and fermented on skins for 14 days. The wine is then pressed to French oak (25% new) for natural malolactic
conversion, then the wine receives a "spring racking" and is returned to oak for a total maturation period of 10 months.
Viticultural Notes:
2020 was a long and cool growing season in the Yarra Valley. Winter rains were substantial and by the end of spring we had full and healthy vine canopies. The conditions around flowering were challenging leading to low fruit yields. The season
progressed with very mild conditions extending the ripening period for harvest well into Autumn for some varieties. The 2020 wines reflect our part of the world and our cool climate.
