Tasting Notes: Wild scents of forest and earth. It’s a cherry dominant fruit spectrum here. Genuine mineral notes speak clearly of the unique Swallowfield Vineyard in the Upper Yarra. Fine and lively on the palate. Cherry fruit provides freshness, whilst mineral and sappy whole bunch characters combine nicely with lightly smokey oak and fine acid to draw out a long finish.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked March 5th. 100% whole bunches were sorted before the fruit had a short cold soak. Pressed to French oak (20% new) after natural primary and secondary fer mentation. Elevaged 10 months on lees in French oak before being racked in preparation for bottling
Viticultural Notes: Swallowfield is located in Gembrook, making it the southernmost vineyard in the Yarra Valley. While Gembrook is known for its volcanic derived red soils, Swallowfield sits on a granite outcrop. ‘Terre’ translates to ‘Earth’ and is 100% MV6, expressing the granite-based quartz rich soil. 1The 2018 harvest will be remembered fondly by winemakers in the Yarra Valley. It was a rare season that gave above average yields and excellent quality fruit. Dry sunny conditions with cool overnight temperatures provided good natural acidity and concentrated wines at lower alcohol levels.
