Tasting Notes: Smoky and floral; bright peach, grapefruit and melon aromas backed by white flowers and creamy nougat notes. Round and generous, with a luscious, fatty core of stonefruit, melon and citrus and nutty, creamy complexity, it culminates in a soft finish of racy acidity and lingering suggestions of marzipan and coriander. Artfully balanced, with an underlying minerality.
Winemaking Notes: Hand-picked 27th March.Crushed and pressed with full solids to French oak (20% new), natural primary fermentation and no malolactic fermentation.10 months on lees in French oak before being racked and blended in preparation for bottling.
Viticultural Notes: Swallowfield is located in Gembrook, making it the southernmost vineyard in the Yarra Valley. While Gembrook is known for its volcanic derived red soils, Swallowfield sits on a granite outcrop. These quartz rich soils are perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
This is the third release of our ‘Terre’ Chardonnay. A blend of Swallowfield vineyards block one I clone, 96 and 76 is the equivalent of a village wine. After several warm growing seasons, 2017 was a return to a classic Yarra Valley harvest producing balanced, elegant wines with wonderful natural acidity.
